An extensive extended voyage through the Land Down Under has been cancelled in the wake of the death of an senior female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a rest. The ship departed without her and returned later that day after the crew became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation discovered her body the next day.

Officials are looking into the tragedy, alongside police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that travelers and personnel on the vessel were informed that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" preventing any new passengers from entering the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The vessel initially left the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

"Based on limited information we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of attention and common sense," she mentioned.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have undertaken that might have saved Mother's being".

"We understand from the police that it was a very hot period, and mum took sick on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"She was asked her to return, alone. Then the ship left, reportedly without conducting a headcount.

"At some stage in that process, or not long after, mother succumbed, by herself."

Operator Position

Via official communication, the Chief Executive verified that the operator was "cooperating fully with investigators to assist their examination".

He said that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its total backing to the relatives.

Maritime Business Practices

The liner serves up to 120 guests with forty-six staff, according to company data. It was specially constructed to reach remote areas of the Australian coast and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to transport individuals on shore trips.

Incidents of this nature are rare, and liners have systems to track which passengers are embarking or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship really isn't an option," an authority remarked.

Shipping companies consider these processes extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such incidents from occurring," the specialist added.

"This seems to be probably a surprising - and sad - one-off."
