“It was regrettable. It was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was entirely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just showed the incorrect finger,” he noted. “The action was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”
Historical Context for Proprietor Fines
This is not the first time an NFL owner has been fined for misconduct. Previous cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
