Six Individuals Detained Following 12 Million Euro Heist on Precious Metals Facility in the French Republic
A team of six suspects carrying high-powered firearms used explosive devices to force entry into a gold treatment facility located in the city of Lyon, resulting in minor injuries to five staff members during what is being called the most recent prominent broad daylight robbery to affect the nation.
The daring raid took place on Thursday afternoon, with officers rapidly detaining the individuals believed responsible and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth €12M (£10.5 million), according to officials.
Five workers of the precious metals facility sustained minor injuries due to the explosion, and three employees required hospital checks for evaluation, officials confirmed. Twenty-eight workers were at the location when the perpetrators raided.
The individuals, believed to be seasoned offenders, were arrested a brief time later in the neighboring community of Vénissieux, France, a source close to the investigation stated.
A female participant who participated in the robbery was taken into custody as well, according to law enforcement.
“Six individuals who employed explosive devices in an assault targeting a gold refining facility in Lyon, France were caught in the act,” the nation's interior minister declared on social media, praising officers for their “quick action, authority and management”.
Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were likewise seized.
The robbery occurred as French police on that Thursday arrested five more suspects, among them a key figure, in connection with the bold raid on the Louvre museum.
