The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
